Where you shop DOES make a difference!

We always want to make sure you have the best possible price, every single day, on every single item. This means that every day we take the time to shop our competitors and price compare. What I found incredible today was something I wanted to share with you, and it isn't about price.... it is about

Quality

First, the food world is a very small place overall. There are a few handfuls of importers who bring in the majority of the products you see. We're talking dozens here, not hundreds. So every single retailer starts with the same source for identical products. So you would think that all you need to do is price compare and you'll be fine. WRONG!

I saw a review over on a competitor's website, and the customer gave ZERO out of 5 stars for a product, calling it "awful, rancid, had to spit it out" and further went on to affirm "I know my food, am a connoisseur of olive oils, and this was terrible". I carry this olive oil, I use it myself weekly. So I go through, in my own kitchen, a bottle every 4-6 weeks. I have NEVER had such an experience with any bottle from this importer. It is one of the freshest, most vibrant, gorgeous olive oils on the market today. So what is going on?

SIMPLE in my mind. This connoisseur went to an incredibly well known online retailer more famous for selling books than food. And I would guess they treat books, food, lawn furniture and everything else all the same: warm warehouses, large pallets sitting around for weeks, months, multiple months, waiting to be purchased. FOOD should be CARED FOR. Olive oils don't like heat, don't like light, do not like being "old" and should be consumed within a year of harvest/bottling.

In short, it does not surprise me that the review of this fabulous olive oil at that other site was negative. I'm guessing that bottle sat and sat, was exposed to heat and light and was the better part of a year old before it ever got to the consumer. I saw other products that were "sold by" and listed another 3rd party vendor. REALLY? How many hands should your purchase pass through, how many chances for someone to put your box on a hot loading dock, to let it sit around for a while, should you really tolerate? This is what you want to cook with, feed yourself, your family and your friends. You put it into your body!! Don't you deserve the best kept, freshest, tastiest product you can get your hands on?

Unfortunately, this is not limited to just online stores either. I have bought from a very famous brick and mortar store here in my own city and have had many oxidized, rancid oils from nut oils to extra virgin olive oils. I have no idea how long they sat in the stockroom, or on the shelf, but certainly they were exposed to some very very bad conditions like heat and light.

Here at Gourmet-Delights.com we order in small quantities, enough to sell through in 2-4 weeks, and then we reorder. Things do not sit around, they are not exposed to heat or light. We care for our products, respect the need, the desire, to have every item arrive in your hands in the FRESHEST possible condition.

It DOES matter where you buy, not only because you want to get the best possible price, but because you DESERVE the best, freshest, tastiest product when it shows up on your doorstep. We promise to only sell the freshest, well kept, food products we can find, and back that up with a "no questions asked" guarantee for a 100% refund, or immediate replacement, if a product does not meet and exceed your expectations.

As Julia Child reminds us time and again, fresh, high quality ingredients make all the difference!

The annual tasting of freshly pressed olive oil is a generations old tradition in Italy. Green olives are harvested, and pressed just in time for the holiday season. Unlike other olive oils, these Novello (meaning new or fresh in Southern Italy; in Northern Italy they use the term Nuovo) extra virgin olive oils do not spend any time in the settling tank which yields a zesty olive oil. We are so proud to be able to offer you our own branded extra virgin olive oil. Our goal was simple, to find an amazing extra virgin olive oil from Italy for daily use. We asked for it to be full bodied and delicious. We also asked for a price point below $30.

The wonderful people at Trampetti came through with their leccino/frantoio olive blend. They continued to meet the highest standards, as one would expect from Trampetti, and meet our goals as well.

The Castillo de Canena Estate has produced exceptional extra virgin olive oils in the Guadalquivir Valley of Andalusia in the south of Spain since 1780. This exceptional smoked oil is artisanally crafted by slowly infusing their high quality, hand-harvested, Castillo Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil with naturally produced smoke from a mix of organic oak, beech, and birch woods. When you open the bottle you will smell, and taste, exquisitely smoked Arbequina. This unique oil is divine on its own, or you can pair it with your favorite recipes to add a smoky component to your dressings, marinades, and final dishes.

  • Brush it on bread, or just dip the bread right in.
  • Drizzle it on:
    • Vegetables.
    • Seafood, poultry, and meats.
    • Soup.
  • Use it to make a smoky hummus.
  • Pair it with your favorite vinegar for a smoky, delicious dressing or marinade.

In order to produce this wonderful, exquisite, cutting-edge cold smoked extra virgin olive oil, Castillo de Canena designed a unique process. Their burner allows the wood chips to slowly smolder. The smoke is then cooled, and passed through a water filter. They then slowly, over the course of 6 hours, release the cold smoke into the bottom of the tank which holds the Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This artisanal process naturally imparts the smoky flavor and aroma into the oil.

This Casina Rossa extra virgin olive oil with black truffles (Tuber Aestivum which is the summer black truffle found in Europe) is aromatic yet subtle, extremely versatile, and great on risottos, pastas, pizzas, and popcorn! A real piece of truffle is in every bottle.

Nicola DeLaurentiis and his wife Paola operate Casina Rossa in the Abruzzo region of Italy. They are driven to tirelessly invent, improve, innovate, and refine their products.

Casina Rossa produces this extra virgin olive oil with black truffle by traditionally cultivating and harvesting Gentile, Intosso, and Ghiandaro olives from their family-owned trees. By coupling these traditional methods with modern continuous cycle processing, they produce a first class extra virgin olive oil. Try this extra virgin olive oil with black truffle on antipasti, risottos, and pastas.

Produced and bottled by Casina Rossa with olives grown, harvested, and pressed at the Casina Rossa Estate in Italy.

Do not be fooled by other truffle oils that use grape seed, sunflower, safflower, or even "olive oil"... if they went cheap on the oil you know they went cheap on the truffle. Demand "extra virgin olive oil," the best. Plus those other "truffle oils" do NOT have actual pieces of truffle in them, another cost cutting step which gives your truffle oil a chemically taste. So they went cheap on the truffle too.

Only buy truffle oils, like this one, that use extra virgin olive oil and that have actual pieces of REAL TRUFFLE in EVERY bottle. That way you can guarantee you will get the pure truffle flavor you expect, and demand.

"Acquerello is the Rolls Royce of rice." - Alain Ducasse

"Acquerello is one of the very last authentic products." - Frédy Girardet

Acquerello is the rice grown, aged, whitened, and packed in Italy on the Colombara farm by the Rondolino family.

It is the ultimate rice: first the unhusked rough rice is aged to perfection for at least one year, then it is whitened slowly using "The Helix" where grains rub gently one against the other, and finally it is restored with its most precious element, the embryo or germ. This re-enrichment of the refined rice with its germ restores the most valuable nutrients of brown rice.

Known as the "king" or the "caviar" of Italian rices, Carnaroli is the preferred risotto rice in most regions of Italy. Acquerello Carnaroli rice is classified as "Extra rice" for its quality. In order to preserve its characteristics perfectly, Acquerello rice is vacuum sealed in unique enameled tins.

Carnaroli rice keeps its shape better than other forms of rice during the slow cooking required for making risotto. For instance, Arborio rice is widely available, and sometimes suggested, for risotto. We are not fans of Arborio for risotto. Compared to Arborio, Carnaroli rice has a smaller grain size, and higher starch content. This means Carnaroli can absorb larger amounts of liquid, and thus flavor, from the wine and broth, without overcooking. So your risotto is more flavorful when you use Carnaroli rice. Also, the higher starch content in Carnaroli rice guarantees an ultra-creamy texture that is the hallmark of a superior risotto.

Acquerello's grains stay perfectly intact, absorb flavors exceptionally well, do not bind together, and do not lose starch, proteins, or vitamins. Therefore your risotto is fully consistent, tasty, creamy, and not sticky. Acquerello risotto will always be outstanding.

Acquerello is used in the finest restaurants around the world:

  • The French Laundry, USA (Thomas Keller)
  • Osteria Francescana, Italy (Massimo Bottura)
  • Troisgros, France (Michael Troisgros)
  • The Fat Duck, England (Heston Blumenthal)

The Carnaroli rice cultivated at Colombara, being the only variety sown since 1997, is 100% pure and therefore produces uncontaminated Carnaroli seeds.

Once you have tried it, you will never look back!

Aji amarillo, or amarillo chile, is the most common type of aji and is one of the most important ingredients in Peruvian cooking. It has a heat level of 7 on a scale of 10 (50,000 Scoville units). It is great in combination with meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, pasta, and rice dishes, and is used to season nuts.

The unique flavor of the Aji Amarillo makes it worth seeking out and incorporating into your cooking. Even though it is a "chile pepper" it has a lot of fruitiness combined with its heat. It is a very versatile chile that will complement your dish without overwhelming it.

In a mild mini-climate near the town of Guèrande in the cultural region of Brittany, France there are centuries old salt fields. In this unique location the currents of the Atlantic run cleaner than in many of the other salt harvesting regions of France. As a result, Guèrande produces the best salt in all of France.

On warm, breezy afternoons from May to September, an artisan paludier (craftsman salt harvester) like Gilles Hervy can "sweep" the crystallized top of the evaporating sea water. This harvested salt, the Fleur de Sel, is the most delicate, purest part of the saline. What remains and crystallizes throughout the rest of the season is the Sel Gris. For every 80 pounds of Sel Gris produced, they can harvest only one pound of the precious Fleur de Sel.

Fleur de Sel is an all-natural sea salt from Brittany, France. It is unprocessed, unrefined, and unadulterated. It does not contain anti-caking or anti-flowing agents. It is known as the "Caviar of Salts".

The Gilles Hervy family (husband, wife, two sons, and a daughter) sells the best, most consistent quality Fleur de Sel in the world.

Saveur Magazine said Bonito tuna is "one of the great gastronomic pleasures of every day life."

The belly or "Ventresca" of the Bonito del Norte Tuna is the softest and most delicate part of the fish. It presents a much lighter and sweeter palate than the rest of the flesh of the fish, and is considered an exquisite delicacy.

Bonito del Norte is found in the coastal waters of the Bay of Biscay in the Basque region of Spain during the summer season when they come north to dine on the Cantabrian Anchovy. The Bonito del Norte is the most valued member of the tuna family, highly appreciated for its white flesh, exquisite flavor, and delicate texture. This Ortiz specialty is fished using artisanal fishing techniques with the philosophy that we must preserve our earth and its resources. Each tuna is individually line caught and not netted. They are fully dolphin safe.

Within 24 hours of being caught, the best belly fillets are selected, cooked in seawater, and then hand-packed in olive oil to keep them moist and flavorful.

The Savini family business is world famous for their truffles. Since the 1920s, the family tradition of handcrafted truffle products has passed down over four generations.

The truffles are individually selected by Luciano and Cristiano Savini. They are personally out with the truffle hunters in the heart of Tuscany so they can guarantee the highest quality and ensure the origin of each and every truffle. The production of truffle products, like this exceptional truffle butter, is then carried out using traditional methods and solely at the request of the importer. This guarantees both the freshness of the product and the 'shelf life'. Every jar shows a "best by" date so you know you are getting the freshest butter available. Large visible pieces of real truffle are in every jar.

  • Start your day off with a perfectly cooked egg and some truffle butter.
  • Put it on hot baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and french fries.
  • Place a spoonful on your hot steak and watch it explode with truffle flavor.
  • A little bit with seared or grilled scallops is otherworldly.
  • Truffle butter for lobster? ABSOLUTELY!
  • Add a heaping teaspoon to your risotto 5 minutes before it is done to make truffle risotto!
  • Toast some bread, spread some truffle butter on it, add a touch of grated parmesan cheese, and serve as an appetizer.
  • Mix together an egg yolk, a teaspoon of truffle butter, copious amounts of grated parmesan cheese, and two teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil as a sauce for pasta.
  • Rub it on a hot ear of corn on the cob.
  • Use it as your butter for popcorn... Truffle popcorn!
  • A perfect dipping sauce for a freshly cooked artichoke.

José Páez Lobato is a family enterprise that specializes in the making of fine sherry vinegar. The Bodega, or cellar, was founded in 1933 by Francisco Paez Sanchez, and is now managed by his sons.

This 50 year old sherry vinegar is characterized by its amber color, delicate smell, and unique taste... all of which are due to a careful and prolonged aging process. Gran Capirete is aged in American Oak barrels, and the solera that gave birth to it was established in 1946 (so it is actually 74 years old!). It has an unforgettable flavor, with a hint of nuttiness. This vinegar is drier than balsamic vinegar and has an acidity of 8º.

The production and quality of sherry vinegar is monitored and controlled by the Consejo Regulador, and sherry vinegar has its own Denominacion de Origen (D.O.) which is protected by Spanish and EU law. This vinegar carries the D.O. Vinagre de Jerez stamp of approval.

Its complexity and depth of flavor greatly enhances soups, stews, sauces, casseroles, marinades, and dressings.

Antonino Mennella is a passionate young extra virgin olive oil producer from the Salerno area of Campania, Italy. On his small 2,000-tree farm he produces this limited edition Raro ('rare') extra virgin olive oil by removing the pits of the Ravece and Rotondella olives, and then only pressing the remaining fruit. This process is known as "denocciolate".

This pitting before pressing is unique, and it creates an extraordinary extra virgin olive oil unlike any other you will find.

Antonino uses advanced pressing and processing technology to produce a super extra virgin olive oil with double the average content of polyphenol antioxidants, and an astoundingly low level of free oleic acid. As a result, this extra virgin olive oil has almost the same level of freshness as an olive still on the tree.

La Madonna dell’Olivo has optimal levels of vitamin E tocopherols, and Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. This extra virgin olive oil has a remarkably well balanced flavor profile and is thus a ‘double winner’ -- an elixir of good health with amazing flavor.

This is a deep, intensely fruity extra virgin olive oil with irresistible aromas.

"My objective," says Antonino, "is to fight uniformity and exalt differences." Try this Raro Extra Virgin Olive Oil and you will see exactly what he means!

The most wonderful small sardines in olive oil we have ever tasted come from the Estuaries of Galicia, Spain. This is a true Spanish food gem and we are very pleased to be able to offer it to you.

Rich in vitamins D and B12, they are also an excellent source of calcium and omega-3 fatty acids.

Do NOT be fooled by other sardines. Conservas de Cambados makes a "Gourmet" line, which is their highest quality, and the ONLY ones we sell. "Gourmet" is clearly at the top of the front label as shown in the photo, the "Conservas de Cambados" logo is prominently displayed, and the tin is rectangular with rounded corners. Their other line "Bogar/Alamar" is made with imported seafood (not from Spain) or with lower quality seafood from outside of Galicia.

When in doubt verify the front label says "Gourmet" at the top, "Made in Spain by CONSERVAS DE CAMBADOS, S.A. FDA 15066" at the bottom, shows the "Conservas de Cambados" logo, and it is in a rectangular tin with rounded corners.
