The first to cultivate vanilla were the Totonac people, who inhabit the Mazatlan Valley on the Gulf Coast of Mexico in the present-day state of Vera Cruz. Attempts to cultivate the vanilla plant outside Mexico and Central America proved futile because of the symbiotic relationship between the tlilxochitl vine that produced the vanilla orchid and the local species of Melipona bee. In 1841, a 12-year-old French-owned slave by the name of Edmond Albius, who lived on Île Bourbon, discovered the plant could be hand pollinated, allowing global cultivation.
Mexican vanilla beans are truly nature’s
original beans. All other vanilla beans
grown in other parts of the world are direct
descendents of the original vanilla orchids of
Mexico. It is due to the unique climate and
growing conditions of Mexico that Mexican
vanilla beans contain the sweet, rich, creamy
taste that people the world over have come to
recognize as the “original” vanilla.
It is this combination of personal care and
perfect natural growing conditions that
allow Vera Cruz Premium Mexican Vanilla
Products to procure only the finest vanilla
beans to be used in our proprietary curing
and manufacturing processes.
Our gourmet Mexican vanilla is produced with premium aged vanilla beans. We don’t sell Vanilla from all over the world; we make the best Vanilla in the world.
This vanilla has a more robust flavor than most vanillas. While we use the amount the recipe calls for, you can add a little less depending on your personal preference. Of course, this vanilla is perfect for baking but also try adding it to coffee, milk, shakes, smoothies and oatmeal.
Natural vanilla flavoring is derived from real vanilla beans and has a low alcohol content. Imitation vanillas can be 40% alcohol!!! (this is a quick and easy way to determine if you are getting "real vanilla" or "fake vanilla".) Our vanilla has a very very low alcohol content (2%) so you only get the pure vanilla taste with no alcoholic "hit". It's a healthy and natural way to enhance flavor in what you're eating without all the sugar or calories.
A chef at a 2-star Michelin restaurant in Paris turned us onto this fabulous vanilla. Since this chef could make their own extract, yet still buys Vera Cruz, we are very confident this is the best of the best, not only to our palates, but to experienced palates around the world.
