This is the 11th occasion that the Vañó family has released a special edition "First Day of Harvest" (Primer Día de Cosecha) extra virgin olive oil to capture the very purest flavors of the olive crop. Each release is commemorated with a unique bottle label, each designed by a different established name from Spain's creative community. For 2016, Castillo de Canena partnered with the film director Álex de la Iglesia to create a new label that clearly reflects his personality as a fan of First Day of Harvest extra virgin olive oils as well as of the world of comic books.
“It was very interesting and good fun to work on this project as the production of First Day of Harvest brings to the world of extra virgin oils the same magic, feelings and passion that the characters in my films and my books convey,” said Álex de la Iglesia, a great supporter of Spanish cuisine.
Furthermore, the filmmaker also confessed his passion for exotic food. “I love Vietnamese, Thai and Brazilian food, and it’s amazing how these delicious Castillo de Canena oils can fuse with these types of recipes to create the most amazing dishes,” he explained.
The Flos Olea Guide 2017 names Castillo de Canena the “Best Oil Producing Company in the World.” It has also selected the company’s extra virgin olive oils as the best on Earth, giving them the maximum possible score (98 points) for the 5th year in a row. These achievements put the Castillo de Canena extra virgin olive oils among the top 20 in the world.
