Tommaso Masciantonio is one of only two dedicated growers in Abruzzo reviving the Intosso olive in a small area of Casoli, Abruzzo, at the foothills of the Maiella Mountain. The small Intosso tree thrives, even in the cooler temperatures, in a unique plateau rich in limestone soils. With Tommaso’s constant attention to production quality at every stage, the result is a unique and intensely flavored olive oil.

Tommaso’s olive oil is made exclusively from the Intosso Olive varietal. This olive was very important to the inhabitants in Casoli and the surrounding mountain foothills until the post-World War II period. Tommaso is helping revive this varietal and prevent its gradual replacement by non-native varieties that are more productive and simpler to manage.

The most flavor you can get in a bottle of EVOO by law.*
I tried just a dollop and the flavor really blew me away. So rich, so complex a flavor profile. I'm looking forward to finding just the right recipe to showcase this appropriately.




*at least it's the law in my house...
